PSP Hack: ‘Spartaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!’ Exploit says “Hello, World!”

by phil on November 8, 2009

Welcome to the homebrew world, PSP 3000 owners! Introducing the “Spartaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!” exploit – so named because MaTiAz used “this is spartaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!” as a test while he was investigating it. The PSP 3000 is now open for business for real homebrew goodness. I put together a development kit for the new exploit so that people will be able to make their own programs :) Download the SDK: tinyurl.com (The song is Just Like You Imagined by Nine Inch Nails.)…

This has nothing to do with the the Go exploit.

NyGiant123 November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

how do u get it 4 da go?

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Nothing ever really came of it, because the TIFF exploit came out just after this. It was patched a few firmwares ago.

So what does this spartaaaa… hack do?

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Only if you completely reboot it; regular power-downs (by flipping the power switch) won’t make it go away.

ActionHorror November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Yea I already know what SDK means,
everything is clear now, thank you FreePlay ;)

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

We decrypted the *savedata*. And an SDK is a development kit… we used a debugger, (i.e. PSPLink).

ActionHorror November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

So the Game you mean this one on this video “GS”, by making it an iso file !!, decrypting the file you mean decrypting the Iso file ?

So it is all about detecting where would the Error message appear by putting an sdk somewhere within the file, so you can follow this message(sdk) , right ?

sorry for asking so much lol

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

He saved a game, decrypted the file, and overwrote the name with the phrase “THIS IS SPARTAAAAA…” past the name length that the game allowed. Then he ran the game while running a debugger, and looked at the resulting error that he got when the game loaded the modified savedata.

Hey, FreePlay, do you find the Exploits by hexing the motherboard ? or what ?
I believe I read a thread that the word sparta written with many “As” like spartaaaaaaaaaa…
because Matiaz had to write it like this so it matches how many characters of the hex letters
is this correct ?
I also can’t find Matiaz on youtube

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

No. It was blocked in 5.51.

XeroRoxasSaix November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Okay, im confused…so ChickHEN DOESN’T work on PSP-3000 firmware 5.51?

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

… which are not fake…

Darkfate95 November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

as in downloaded games or copied games.

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

… They’re not ‘fake’ games.

Darkfate95 November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

so then psp 3000 can play fake games???

junichiroe November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

it has many things it can do. homebrew can let u play iso games on psp (i mean without a UDM) also lets u play other games such as game boy games ect.

Darkfate95 November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

what does home brew do????

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

They’re two different things. GripShift … we never really worked on it. ChickHEN lets you run homebrew.

Darkfate95 November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

so basically what does GripShift , CHickHEN R2 do???

FreePlay November 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm
